What I noticed about this airport is that they didn't have the usual black sling airport chairs in the boarding area. They had some non-traditional new mexico looking chairs. What does that mean? Once you visit you'll see, but they were comfy and what I liked, there were plenty at each terminal!
Then there's ease of travel. Whether one's arriving and checking in, or passing through security, or deplaning, getting baggage and finding their way into a vehicle, all three have allow me to spend as little time in the airport as possible.
Coming from the nightmare that is O'Hare, the security process at ABQ seems like a breeze. There's never many people in front of you, the TSA peeps are really friendly (when does THAT happen!?) and the employees at this airport seem to be a lot more efficient than other places I have been. ABQ doesn't have (as much) insane eather as other places, so there's not usually delays going in/out of the city.
But, man, this airport is SMALL! It looks way smaller than even Kansas City's airport - not that I'm complaining... I'll take small & clean over large & in disarray any day.
It literally took us 3 minutes to get through security (and this security spot serves for 3 different gate sections (A, B & C)! This left us a lot of time to relax before our flight. Nice.
The bathrooms were perhaps the cleanest I've seen, ever, in a US airport. I guess it's easy to keep them clean when there's literally like nobody there but still, I was impressed.
Oh yeah, and there's free WiFi compliments of the City of Albuquerque!
I love ABQ International Sunport. It is a smaller airport, so the only downside is that there's not a ton of direct flights here, and the direct flights that do exist are often pricey. Local food options including Los Cuates, a number of bar options---which I've never checked out because I'm never stuck around waiting---and the same awesomely useless trinkets you can get at any airport (but NM-themed).
Because its so small, the Albuquerque International Airport parking is not such an ordeal as at other airports, and its the cheapest I've heard of anywhere. There are hardly any ABQ airport hotells, though, also because of the size.
