The best thing is the train thing that zips you off to other gates. Super quick and easy to navigate. Also, this modern airport was blindingly clean, had like a million giant bathroom stalls, and had so many food options I almost had a seizure. They had a Chili's in there. Seriously.
The only bad part was customs. My goodnes. I got screamed at TWICE for no reason at all. It was like all the employees who got laid off from the DMV decided to become Customs and Border Patrol Agents. Oops. Did I say that out loud?
This is one of the better super mega airports in the United States. I like free wifi. I also adore how all the trash cans automatically (via a sensor of some type) open when you are about to put trash in,and then compact it right there.
For being the largest and the busiest airport in the world, Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson is an incredibly efficient airport. I've been to O'Hare, I've been to LGA JFK and NWK, and really it's laughable to even compare. The vast number of security lines, the efficient design of the airport, and the courtesy of the staff separates ATL to a different level. Not to mention you can fly literally anywhere in the world from ATL.
I also really like the easy MARTA access in to Hartsfield-Jackson. For a local this is a really nice way for me to get quickly, cheaply and efficiently to the airport. In fact, if there is ANY traffic, I can get to the airport quicker on the train than by car. When you add in the fact it takes you inside the airport and I don't have to deal with or pay for Atlanta International Airport Parking, if you haven't booked a park and fly package - cause tha't's the best - then MARTA is a decent option.
The on-site parking is $12 a day. However, it can get pretty full in there, so if I were you, as I said, grab a park and fly, or pick one of the off-site parking places. You really do have a world of choices for ATL airport hotels, with nice hotel and parking deals.
Oh, and delays happen, folks. They happen everywhere. When you are the single busiest airport in the entire world (and by a fairly large margin), then delays will occur here. Most of the complaints I have seen are from people connecting through ATL. Don't blame Hartsfield-Jackson for you being from a small town and have to connect through here. If you WANT the convenience of a massive international aiport, then buck up. If you want a small town feel, then understand when you travel it may be a pain in the butt. Again, that is not Hartsfield-Jackson's fault that you have a tight connection. But, heaven help you if you have a tight connection.
