The major attraction of the Catskill region is the spectacular unspoiled scenery. There are ninety-eight peaks more than 3,000 feet high and covering more than 4,000 square miles, five major rivers, the Mohonk Preserve, Catskill Park, wild forests, crystal lakes and fertile valleys. Cruise season is from May to October. The Port of Catskill Marina offers calm protected waters, and it is a convenient place to stop when entering or leaving the Erie and Champlain canals. Visitors can choose to travel the region by boat or motorcyle, by rail or mountain bike, kayak or glider, on snowmobile, golfcart or horseback.
