As a New Yorker, i dont know much about North Carolina vinyards, but when a friend asked me if I'd go to Charlotte for a ladies weekend, (her brother is getting married there) we'd see the Childres Vineyards in Lexington, I jumped. If you’re a NASCR fan, you'll recognize the name. The winery is located in Lexington betw Winston-Salem and Charlotte NC. It is a little over 10 hours drive from where I am, so I'd rather fly in. Like most people from Queens, I live squarely between JFK & LGA, so depending on the flight fare, I use the kennedy or laguardia airport parking, offered most economically by the hotels and its a breeze (the price at the area lots is getting too high) and the convenience cant be beat. I'm already in vacation mode before I even get on the flight.

When we get in to CLT, theres a Holiday Inn Express right next to the winery. We'll visit with the brother and the family in 2 days. We arrived at the vinyard at dinnertime so we could enjoy The Bistro at the winery. I had the bisque, and sweet peppers served over polenta. It was amazing. We had a bottle of Pinot Noir, only $12, a very smooth, fruity wine. Perfect compliment to a 90 degree day. After supper, they had a late tasting of some of the other award-winning wines. There's sweet-v-dry wine tasting $12-15.I tasted through 7 wines and decided on the Chenin Blanc and Sangiovese. I enjoyed my short visit to Childres Vineyards and I’d love to visit again and tour the onsite vineyard.
