The Old Town area of Corfu is particularly enchanting and contains a number of appealing historical attractions, which often have a distinctive Venetian flair. Much of the Old Town comprises a maze-like array of cobblestone alleyways and these winding streets as referred to as the 'kantounia'. The Venetian Citadel is a particular highlight, as is the seafront esplanade and the views across the Bay of Garitsa.
The monastery known as the Moni Theotokou can be found on Corfu's west coast, within the resort of Paleokastritsa. Established as far back as the 13th century, the monastery building here today was actually built during the 18th century and contains a detailed picture showing the Last Judgement. Outside, the walls of the Moni Theotokou are whitewashed and draped in bougainvillea, which is truly a sight to behold when it flowers. Other attractions in Paleokastritsa include both the Corkyra Dive Club and the Korfu Diving Centre, as well as plenty of sandy beaches and motorboats for hire.
Close to the historic Venetian Citadel in Corfu Town is a large central square, which is separated into two main areas by an intersecting streets. The Upper Square is referred to locally as the 'Ano Platei', while the enormous Lower Square goes by the name of the 'Kato Plateia' and is reputed to be amongst the largest plazas in the whole of south-east Europe. A number of noteworthy attractions surround the Kato Plateia, such as various green spaces, seasonal flowers, a Romani-influenced rotunda, and a rather gorgeous music pavilion, where regularly performances by the town's Philharmonic Orchestra (Philharmoniki) are staged - well worth looking out for.
One of the best of all the family orientated tourist attractions on Corfu, Aqualand is highly recommended and offers a great way to cool down on a hot day. Aqualand truly does offer something for everyone, with a beach area and sun loungers for those who simply want to lay back and relax, along with enormous water slides, 'free fall' slides, a winding lazy river, a giant Jacuzzi, and a shallow pool for younger children, which comes complete with its own mini octopus and frog. There is even an adventure playground, bouncy castle and arcade with the latest video games, along with a restaurant, a bar, and ice cream shops selling Greek-style 'gelateria'. It is quite likely that you will spend an entire day in Aqualand, particularly if you come here with children.
Corfu Golf Club offers something different, away from the beach resorts, bars and shops. Also close to the hilltop village of Pelekas, the Golf Club boasts an especially impressive course, which is reputed to be amongst Europe's most beautiful. The landscape around the golf course comprises woodland attractions, lakes, meandering streams and excellent views, while for many, a meal in the spacious clubhouse is another important part of the game
