Being a capital city, Lisbon has lots to offer the travelling party-goer

• The Bairro Alto area has everything for a perfect night out, from start to finish. Grab a delicious dinner at one of the great restaurants, and then simply dive down into the narrow streets and discover all the great bars hidden away!
• Experience a traditional Lisbon night out at a Fado house. These intimate, candle-lit venues serve traditional food and drink, and often have musicians playing Portuguese traditional music.
• Lisbon has a great selection of clubs, and the cream of the crop are Bedroom, Pavilhão Chinês, and Lux, which is owned by Hollywood star John Malkovich.

Culture in Lisbon

Lisbon is an art lover’s paradise, and you’ll be spoilt for choice with all the museums and galleries to choose from.

• The Museum of Modern Art of Lisbon has around 1000 words from international artists for the 20th and 21st century.
• For a more historical experience, try the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga, which houses the national art collection of Portugal’s, including paintings from the 14th century onwards. A historical feast.

Belém

This is one of Lisbon’s must-see areas, and is crammed full of exciting attractions.

• For stunning sites and iconic landmarks, try the Belem Tower, and the Statue to Afonso de Albuquerque
• The area also has various monuments and statues, so keep your eyes peeled!

Alfama

This is another must-see area of Lisbon, which offers a great insight into local life

• Wander the streets and take in the beautiful buildings.
• Sample the food – restaurants offer cheap, traditional home-made food.
• Turn around and admire the view!

Architecture

Set on a series of steep hills, Lisbon has a strikingly dramatic backdrop for its beautiful buildings and architecture.

• St George’s Castle, or Castelo de São Jorge, has a great view over the whole city, and well worth trekking up the hill for (or take a bus!)
• The Ponte Sasco de Gama is also a prime spot. It is the longest bridge in Europe, and ninth longest in the world
• The Águas Livres Aqueduct is a great example of 18th century engineering. It is a stunning structure, and a sight well worth seeing.

Europe's largest indoor aquarium, Oceanario de Lisboa wows children and adults alike.
Rossio is Lisbon's main square since the Middle Ages.
