The prices are always on the expensive side because it's a Delta hub. For example, it usually costs me ~1.5-2x the cost from NYC or SFO to MSP then it does from NYC to SFO. So if you were hoping for some cheap MSP flight tickets, forget it. This is what lack of competition does for you. However, it's always clean and the lines have never been atrocious. Another way to put this is even long lines tend to move.
The down side to the airport is the expanded wing. The A and B terminals are waaaaaaaayyyyyyy down at the end of the airport. Yes they have a little shuttle that goes back and forth, but half the time you are better off walking, like when you just missed a shuttle. Any of the other more central terminals are fine. This is one expansive place. If you're at one end of the terminal and you have to get to the other end, you can either take the train or make a long walk. It's fairly easy to get around but one time I had to make a tight connection and ended up running through the airport and it was at least a half mile between my connecting gates...I was very breathless on the next flight. But I beat the old people who were on the same flight who took one of those little carts. In your face, grandma! (Just kidding, I told them I'd make sure they held the plane)
One recent(ish) addition is the light rail line. You can take the light rail for free between the terminals or pay to go up to downtown or down to the Mall of America.
There are many great restaurants and TWO Starbucks! I absolutely avoid Caribou Coffee. I learned my lesson with them on one of my shorter layovers. It is worth the walk to get your coffee elsewhere! Heck, they will serve you better coffee on the plane. There are lots of shops here and even a little mall. The really delicious restaurants are hidden in gate G. There are a couple in F, but most of them are in G.
For you trivia buffs, the 1970 disaster film "Airport" was partially filmed at MSP, filling in for a fictional Lincoln airport. I don't remember the movie, it was before my time. Do you?
Most recently, we were in town to attend a Twin games. The airport is easy to navigate, large and spread out. And it has a load of dining and shopping options. I have never been to an airport that has a nicely printed out pocket size directory complete with coupons! The Minnepolis St Paul International airport parking is a little too pricey, and the other place nearby wants you to give them your keys, and I'm just not that kind of girl, so - park and fly package, baby!! There are some nice little MSP airport hotels right there for you.
Security lines were long when we were flying out of Minneapolis. Very long. But they have their stuff together here and managed to keep everyone moving along fairly quickly. It's nice to see an airport that is flourishing these days. Rock on , MSP!
