SJC will really exceed your expectations.  When you look at other metro airports, like SFO, this is just  worlds better. If it weren't for the overpriced parking ( but it is Silicon Valley ) it would be about perfect. Just takes too long from the long term San Jose Airport parking lot to get the bus back over to the airport, especially when you have a 6 AM flight.

The terminal dedicated to Southwest was recently renovated.The architectural design of the building is futuristic like in a Jetsons cartoon. It is a grueling walk to baggage claim, so get ready to hate it. I feel I need one of those hover boards to get from one end to the other. On the plus side, even when the line through security screening is long, it moves quickly. I cant stand the full body scanners (a.k.a. AIT scanners, which should stand for Abominable Intrusive Technology), so I always opt out and insist on alternate screening, aka: a pat down. Or as I like to think of it, a free massage. Yup, our fear of toothpaste gels and nail clippers aboard planes has culminated in people being massaged at the airport. But there is a Mineta San Jose Airport hotel for every taste, and another huge plus is their restroom design. Big, open areas, with lots of stalls which are always so clean - and very spacious too, with enough room for your suitcases or carry-ons. You don't need to do a whole lot of shuffling to get all of your possessions in. The sink features are all motion activated so you don't need to touch anything after the stalls, which is very hygienic unlike what most other aiports have to offer.

Free wifi, lots of charging stations and a grand piano on the first floor; what's not to like?
