Its very nice when you go on a "wildlife" vacation where they let you touch the dolphins in an enclosed area, and you go back to your hotel room like a good little boy. But imagine swimming close to small groups of dolphins in the wild - now, that's a thrill. You can also run into families of green sea turtles. Just do what we did and choose a specialty ecotour to Hawaii's leeward coast of Oahu. Although they won't let you get so close to the animals as to annoy them, and you can't feed them, that's as it should be, they're wild creatures and need their space. We replaced our boxed-in cruise and/or hotel vacation with an unforgettable adventure experience. Magnificent is the word that comes to mind. The everyday world of traffic and parking and concrete and copy paper just vanishes into thin air as you regain your childlike wonder so close to wild things as they really are. You will go home with some treasured memories, and feel a vibrant part of nature, instead of a starchy observer. Check it out.
