Toronto Pearson airport is quite clean and offers free WiFi. Clearing customs is usually a breeze, and security personnel are the friendliest I've encountered while traveling. Restaurant options are limited in the smaller terminals, but prices are generally less than what I expect in the U.S. There are numerous outlets available for charging iPhones, computers, and all the other electronic devices one seems to need these days. This world class airport is a monster; but, once you get your bearings, you can get through it easily and quickly. That said, of you are traveling to the United States, please do be there 1.5-2hrs before departure. You've never seen so many hotels in one place, and finding a suitable Toronto Airport Hotel for a hotel and parking setup will be a breeze. If you get stuck without your hnp, YYZ is a very long and expensive cab ride from Toronto center; and of course Toronto Airport Parking is expensive.

Ticketing:   Limited to Air Canada for US bound travel, my experience the last few times has been very good; in case you were not able to checkin online before arriving, there are 20+ kiosk, after which you can quickly jump in the bag drop line.  

Customs/Immigration: There are ton of folks that move through Terminal 1, so unless you have Nexis or Global Entry, please expect this portion to take between 20-30 mins - ugh!    For those with Nexis/Global Entry, you can get into a short Immigration line (to the left), which should cut your time down by half or more.  Global Entry folks, please see Tip (below)

Security: Nexis and an eligible American Express Card members have a quick line option (to the right) that should take less than 10 mins; those without can expect a 15-30 mins.

Food/Shopping/Other:  Great variety of options (Including seated massage and "quiet rooms") to keep you occupied while you wait.

Tip1: Global Entry members; while there is a single line for both Nexis and Global Entry, over 85% (my guess) of the folks waiting in this line are waiting for Nexus;  excuse yourself to the front of the line (using the adjacent roped off area) and get on the Global Entry Kiosks - you'll notice that the four they have are most often empty - you should be able to get through to Security in 5-10 mins.
